The Administrative Core provides leadership, vision, strategic planning, oversight, governance, and management to foster and facilitate high-impact, multidisciplinary research for translational projects among basic, clinical, and population-based members. The core comprises highly successful, research-effective senior leaders and administrative staff. Administration provides infrastructure to promote the cancer research activities of its over 225 members, with a focus on facilitating transdisciplinary and population-based translational cancer research. The specific aims of the core are to support and facilitate all UMGCCC research components through these key functions: 

  • Represent UMGCCC to university, NCI, and State stakeholders

  • Establish UMGCCC’s overall scientific and strategic direction

  • Provide leadership, direction, and governance to five research programs, shared resources, community outreach and engagement (COE), and all other CCSG components.

  • Integrate research efforts across basic, clinical, and population-based science areas

  • Organize and expand COE, CRTEC education, training, and mentoring efforts impacting the Cancer Center

  • Provide infrastructure to support innovative, collaborative, and translational cancer research

  • Direct research within and disseminate best practices to/from UMGCCC’s catchment area, the State of Maryland

  • Communicate between and among Cancer Center leaders and stakeholders within and outside the institution

  • Implement the strategic plan and integrate recommendations from advisory boards and senior leadership

  • Ensure compliance with CCSG, State, and university reporting requirements

  • Manage all clinical practice, research, and institutional funds and accounts ($36.1 million FY19 operating budget)

  • Provide human resource services and expertise to support UMGCCC leadership and membership

  • Coordinate all aspects of UMGCCC recruitment efforts

  • Manage seven shared services, 104,950 gsq. ft. of research space in five separate locations, and common equipment

  • Coordinate internal and external funding applications, 149 applications routed in FY19, including $380,000 in FY19 awarded (7 total) Pilot Projects

  • Support and coordinate CCSG membership processes

  • Coordinate and support activities of UMGCCC committees

  • Provide support for leadership in State outreach and education efforts

  • Provide external affairs services, including development, marketing, public affairs, and educational programs
