Mentoring the Mentors
In an ongoing effort to improve mentor training, CRTEC encourages all cancer faculty to attend ‘Faculty Mentoring Workshop for Biomedical and Population Health Researchers’, offered 2-3 times per year by the UMB GPILS/OPS Office of Career and Professional Development. This series of discussions is part of the Entering Mentoring Series developed at the University of Wisconsin by Pfund et al. Each session in this curriculum is designed to address key concerns and challenges identified by research mentors who train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Topics include ‘Maintaining Effective Communication’, ‘Aligning Expectations and Assessing Understanding’, ‘Addressing Equity and Inclusion and Fostering Independence’ and ‘Promoting Professional Development and Articulating Your Mentoring Philosophy and Plan’.
